WHO COULD HAVE KNOWN that Calgary would grow by leaps and bounds so quickly? Who would have thought that Bowness, once considered the edge of the wilderness, would become part of the inner city? Next time you’re driving around in your car or travelling by bus through Parkdale, West Hillhurst or Point Grey, take a good look at the way properties have been subdivided to allow for massive infill, duplex and townhouse developments. Montgomery is experiencing this now, too, and Bowness is beginning to see more and more of the same type of development. Read more…

A good plan for a great park

TAKE A WALK through Bowness Park any weekday morning and you’ll find it pretty much as you like. A quiet, reflective, Class A greenspace—the crown jewel in our landscape, and a calling card to the greater northwest to come on down and stay awhile. Problem is, every weekend between May and October, that invite is accepted in spades. Visit the park at high noon on any given Sunday and you’ll wonder when picnicking became a strictly drive-in experience. It’s bumper to bumper, packed to bursting, and suddenly the park is the last place you’d ever want to be on a stat holiday. Read more…

Get involved!

July 1, 2010 Leave a comment

The Bowness Community Association has a brand new Planning and Development Committee formed from the merger of the Society of Bowness Residents with the BCA.

It’s a wonderful step forward, giving Bowness a single strong voice. Any member of the BCA is welcome to join this committee and get involved in looking at development permits, subdivisions and other planning and transportation issues that affect Bowness.

Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at the Bowness Community Hall from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. You don’t need to be an expert to be involved. Your voice as a resident of Bowness matters!
