Enjoying Art in the Park

As The Bowest’ner went to press we were anticipating the first annual art!Bowmont: Art in the Park event on June 19, with Shouldice Park taking on a wonderful festival atmosphere filled with paintings, sculptures, interactive works of art and music. In the event of rain, Art in the Park will be held on September 18.

The outdoor art show is the brainchild of art!Bowmont, a collective of visual artists living in Bowness and Montgomery. The group would like to thank Hilary Doyle of www.yogabowness.com for engaging participants with an hour-long yoga demonstration, and the Montgomery Community Centre for donating tables.

The members of art!Bowmont are: Joan Shearer, a painter with a firm tongue-in-cheek attitude and a way with colour; mixed-media sculptor Ron Robinson; Neil Liske, “the mud-slinger,” a highly talented and popular ceramicist; Nikki Gour, who works with found objects to craft her ideas into thought-provoking sculptures; and figure sketcher and painter David Handford, a transplant from Manchester.

Members of art!Bowmont gather monthly to share creative ideas, aspirations and artistic illumination. Unified by intent rather than style, the diversity of their work is what makes the group unique. This diversity makes art!Bowmont: Art in the Park a most artistically interesting and vibrant event.
