Bownesians are taking action!

YOU MAY HAVE HEARD about the Bowness Vital Signs project or the Voices of Bowness report that came out at the end of last year. Led by the Bowness Community Association, the Bowness Vital Signs project conducted research and engaged the community to better understand the quality of life of Bowness residents. The research led to the identification of 12 issue areas and vital actions that could be undertaken to improve the quality of life in the community.

In March of this year, the community association conducted a workshop to seek volunteers that could implement some of the ideas in the Vital Signs report. The workshop was a great success and several people signed up to volunteer time on initiatives in eight of the 12 issue areas.

The report from the workshop, “Taking Action in Bowness,” can be found on the home page of the BCA’s website at http://www.mybowness.com.

What does “taking action” look like? Bownesians can look forward to a community garden on Bowness Road and the Bownesians’ Picnic in Baker Park this summer, a harvest fair this fall, centennial celebrations in 2011, new “Welcome to Bowness” signs, and the installation of public art in and around the community.

If you would like to volunteer some time to Taking Action in Bowness, please contact me at bownessvitalsigns@gmail.com. Help keep Bowness a great place to live!
