I think it would be great to see some mountain bike “dirt jumps” built somewhere in the trees through out Bowness. Bowness is a strong bicycling community, the addition of a small little dirt jump park or pump track would be great for the kids, progression of the sport. I know that COP has them but I have spent time on Vancouver Island and there are dirt jump built through out the trees beside the road, in local parks. The kids themselves maintain the jumps, the garbage and keep the place looking respectable. Places line Vancouver, or Pemberton, Fernie all have recently built mountain bike ability parks or pump track and dirt jump locations. I know that JAY HOOTS who is a professional mountain biker has been involved in numerous builds and is stoked on getting the kids into the sport and everyone having a good time. I wish I could of had dirt jumps to play on as a kid but I still ride my bike and still love the sport. I would be more than willing to volunteer my time in the building process and I know of many others that feel the same way.
I use the “If you build it they will come” philosophy there are enough kids around here and enough locations to use that are perfect and meld perfectly with the bowness and tuscany trail networks. Promote the sport get people out and keep the kids out of trouble. Do not look at the negative side of things of negative things will come of it. If you look at this in a positive way and promote it towards the community only good can follow. A dirt jump area is fairly low maintenance in regards to the jumps themselves and garbage and recycling. This would be a great asset to the community and I would love to hear any comments!
